Gigantochloa atroviolacea

‘Black Bamboo’

Size: 55ft X 4in

Origin: Java

Majestic, erect black bamboo with construction grade timber.

Culms are initially green and as they mature turn into a deep jet black which is flat, not glossy. It is a tight clumper at the base but opens up and fans outward at the top of the plant. No bottom branching with large green leaves.

Gigantochloa atroviolacea is one of the most popular landscape plants because of its stunning beauty.

Performs best at a low elevation and in a protected environment.

Shoots are edible. Timber can be used for musical instruments, furniture and construction.
